Once a remote medieval fishing village,now a quiet, unpoilt sea side town, Aldeburgh is famous for its wide shingle beach and Promenade. With the winding Alde Estuary on one side and protected marshland habitat on the other Aldeburgh has been an inspiration to generations of writers, artists and of course musicians, including Benjamin Britten, founder of the Aldeburgh Festival.
