Once famous for its wool cloth,Hadleigh was among the most important wool and market towns in the area. At the heart of Hadleigh is a rich and important architectural history with origins in Saxon times. A royal town for the 9th century Danish King Guthrum, Hadleigh is amongst the nation's most important archaeological towns.
The Deanery Tower and the church are certainly worth visiting during your stay as is the pretty high street with it fascinating shops and Friday market - some lovely delicacies on sale, a real treat.
No visit will be complete without a real exploration of the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Constable Country as it is most commonly known with its gently sloping countryside - Dedham Vale - peppered by the picture book villages of Dedham, Flatford and East Bergholt. The characteristic lowland English landscape made famous worldwide by Constable is still recognisable today. The charm of the villages and beauty of the surrounding countryside make Constable Country worthy of a visit at any time of year.
With Bury St Edmunds within a half hour drive in one direction and the Suffolk Coast in the other The Lodge provides an ideal location from which to discover the delights of Suffolk.
