Aldeburgh, like its northern neighbour, Southwold, remains in a time warp. A fishing village for many hundreds of years, (you can still buy fresh fish from the fishermen on the beach each morning) Aldeburgh became a popular resort for fashionable Victorians. Always a favourite haunt of writers and artists, Aldeburgh was made famous by composer, Benjamin Britten. Living and working in Aldeburgh Britten set up the Aldeburgh Festival, where one can enjoy performances by some of the world's finest musicians. The Aldeburgh Festival has grown considerably and with the building of the Snape Maltings Concert Hall there are now concert performances in Aldeburgh throughout the year. Aldeburgh is home to a year round programme of arts events including literary and poetry festivals, theatre, film and art exhibitions. Irresistable shops line the high street and there is a wide selection of restaurants and cafés, a very popular fish and chip shop and some fine pubs selling the local Adnams beer.

Two wonderful heathland golf courses -Aldeburgh Golf Course and Thorpeness Golf Course, boating lakes, one for model boats and at nearby Thorpeness, the Mere, where you can hire rowing boats, canoes etc. For the serious sailor there is the Aldeburgh Sailing Club and Aldeburgh Yacht Club, both based on the Alde estuary. Wind surfing is popular from the beach.

Aldeburgh is in the heart of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and on the Suffolk Heritage Coast.
