Orford 3miles (5km), Snape 5miles (8km), Woodbridge 7miles (10KM), The village of Butley stands at the northern edge of Rendlesham Forest. The Gallery Flat is one of a group of sensitively converted and very attractive farm buildings incorporating the Butley Pottery and an artists gallery. The owner s artistry is obvious throughout and examples of her unique and beautiful hand-crafted range of steam bent coppiced ash furniture can be found in the Gallery Flat garden.

Butley has a splendid 14th century gatehouse, all that remains of Butley s Augustine priory; an imposing building, with some interesting flintwork on the north facade (1320) and baronial carvings. Butley's parish church is Norman and has an attractive 14th century tower.

In the heart of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are some splendid country walks both from the property and nearby. Staverton Thicks, a deer park and woods of oak and holly is particularly attractive. The oldest trees date back more than 400 years.

Within a couple of minutes drive of the pretty coastal village of Orford - the Butley oyster beds supply oysters to the Orford fish restaurant- there are boat trips around and to Havergate Island (RSPB reserve)and Orford Ness (National Trust reserve). The Snape Maltings Concert Hall, home of the Aldeburgh Festival and of the Summer Proms is a ten minute drive and Aldeburgh, a very popular but unspoilt seaside town can be reached within 20 minutes.
