Woodbridge 5 miles (8km), Felixstowe 11 miles (17km), Orford 19 miles (31km), Aldeburgh 24 miles (40km) On the south side of the river Deben, Waldringfield lies on a particularly beautiful stretch of the estuary in the heart of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; its waterfront little changed over the past century. Famed for its excellent sailing, the quay was once busy with barges, today smart yachts bob at their moorings whilst the sandy shore is littered with smaller sailing craft.
For those without their own boat there are daily boat trips up and down the river, a must for anyone who enjoys fine landscapes and bird watching.
Walking and cycling is a great way to see the countryside and from Ebbtide in Waldringfield there are some delightful footpaths and quiet lanes from which you will enjoy fantastic views of the river Deben and its estuary and surrounding countryside.
Within a short distance of the coast and the beach - 10 minutes in the car - there are opportunities for water skiing, golf, crabbing and to visit several fine museums including Sutton Hoo and Landguard Fort. Woodbridge is a must with its fine old timber framed buildings, antique shops and excellent restuarants.
Just a little further north Orford, a delightful coastal village from where you can visit Orford Ness and Havergate island (a wonderful RSPB reserve) is well worth a visit as is Aldeburgh and Southwold. The Snape Maltings, home of the Aldeburgh Festival is within 20 minutes drive.
