SNAPE 5miles (8km) ORFORD 12miles (17km) WOODBRIDGE 20miles (33km) SOUTHWOLD 24miles (39km) One of a pair of fishermens cottages newly refurbished to create two wonderful holiday cottages; its neighbour being retained by the owners for their use.
It is wonderful to come across this delightful cottage tucked away close to Aldeburgh's Town Steps. With its own sunny little courtyard garden, Fisherman's Cottage has all that you could want for a seaside holiday at any time of year. Light floods into the spacious open plan living area during the day, whilst at night the cosy wood burning stove and central heating will keep you toasty warm and snug.
There is a wonderful terraced area with table and chairs and lots of potted plants, beyond which is a large utility room with space for all your sailing gear, bicycles etc.
Just a step away from Aldeburgh High Street where there are many tempting opportunities for window shopping and fine fresh local produce to be enjoyed both in the wonderful selection of cafes and restaurants and from the excellent food shops.
Aldeburgh is one of those rare and very special sea side towns visited by the enlightened time and time again. Writers, artists, composers, musicians, actors and those who hanker for the simple pleasures of holidays of their youth return to Aldeburgh year after year. True there is now a plethora of smart boutique clothes shops, local produce and organic food is common place and extremely good and restaurants produce mouth watering menus which are likely to attract you back time and again. But the boating lake is still a draw for even the most sophisticated youngster and you can still stroll down to Slaughden for crab fishing, sailing or a boat trip on the Alde.
And whilst popular the town is only really crowded during the Carnival and if you want to be alone simply wander along the beach or across the water meadows and whilst you will not be alone - the area is a haven for some spectacular wildlife including some rare and wonderful birds - you can have a peaceful walk pretty well undisturbed by human contact.
