ORFORD 12miles (19km) BAWDSEY 11miles (16km) SNAPE 13miles (21km) ALDEBURGH 20miles (33km),

Blackbird Cottage - a well appointed modern town house with walled patio garden, and clean white Laura Ashley style finishes. Ideal for families with babies and children, and for adult visitors with an interest in the outdoors, shopping, antiques, history, the coast, bird watching, walking or cycling or simply discovering the joys of Suffolk. Also great for anyone with business in the area who wants their own space.

Just a minute's walk from the centre of the ancient market town of Woodbridge, close to the river and with a garage and private parking for 2 cars or space for a dinghy, Blackbird Cottage provides superb self catering accommodation for anyone wanting to sail, explore the wonderful Suffolk coastal countryside and beaches or visit Sutton Hoo.

Just a minute's walk from the river from where there are some lovely walks and Woodbridge's thriving shopping centre, with its antique shops, bookshops, galleries and superb array of fine food shops, restaurants and pubs.

Ancient buildings abound and there are several museums, the famous working tide mill and post mill, all within walking distance, as well as Sutton Hoo just a mile and a half away towards the sea in the heart of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Best beaches - The Heritage coast at Bawdsey (great place for children with sandy beach away from the waves)and crabbing from the quay, Shingle Street, Orford (castle, and quay from where you can take great boat trips) and Aldeburgh (a great coastal resort for young and old alike) are all within a short drive. And don't forget a visit to Snape Maltings and the Aldeburgh Festival.

Best walks - Walk down to the end of the road and join the river path, turn left and it will take you in the direction of Melton and across the bridge to Sutton Hoo (National Trust) burial site of a Saxon king with great exhibitions and children's activities and three waymarked walks. Turn right and you can walk along the river to the Tide Mill, to a lovely riverside cafe and then onwards up river (wonderful display of wildfowl and wading birds in the winter) towards Kyson Point(another National Trust site) and Martlesham Creek - absolutely beautiful.

Activities - In Woodbridge itself, there is a sailing club, model boat lake, tennis courts, swimming pool and canoe and rowing club.

Tips - Allow yourself time for a walk around the historic centre of Woodbridge. It is a real treat.
