Chillesford, Near Orford on the Suffolk coast

Style: Traditional Suffolk clapperboard cottage Setting: On the edge of Chillesford, overlooking the meadows which lead down to the Butley river and just moments from miles of woodland walks.

Know what you're getting

House style: A complete refurbishment of a traditional Suffolk clapperboard cottage. The old wooden floors throughout the ground floor have been stripped and painted and littered with rugs, walls are painted in muted colours and decoration provided by some stunning artwork, reminiscent of the local scene and coastline, and antique lacquered chests and colourful furnishings.

Upstairs the theme continues but with carpeted floors for warmth and comfort - a really comfortable and well thought out conversion.

Grounds: Parking for two cars at the front and a good sized garden mainly laid to lawn at the rear

Eating & Drinking: A small hamper of arrival essentials, plus the opportunity to collect free range eggs. There is an excellent pub restaurant - The Froize Inn - at the far end of the village (around 5 minutes walk) - worth booking at weekends! Just a couple of miles away in Orford are two excellent restaurants, The Butley Orford Oysterage (sea-food menu) and The Trinity at The Crown and Castle (Ruth Watson's restaurant). Orford has two excellent pubs, a really good village shop with post office, butchers, fresh fish shed and two smokeries selling smoked fish, ham and cheese.

Children: Separate sitting room and dining room means there's room for children to play without the disturbance of adults. There are livery stables close by and horses in the meadows near the cottage. Climb the hill to the old church, explore the woods and the estuary or take a boat trip from Orford across to Orford Ness (National Trust), RSPB Havergate Island or simply an hour long boat trip - The Regardless - to see Orford and the islands from the water - children will be fascinated by the lobster pots.
