About the property: The cottage has been created from an old farm building; a vaulted roof with windows overlooking the grazing meadow and open plan living area with glass doors to the south facing patio makes this spacious galleried studio cottage really light. The property has been fully refurbished over the last few years and includes pine furniture, tiled flooring on the ground floor and carpeting throughout the galleried bedroom.
Sleeps: The Forge sleeps 2 people in full sized twin beds (can be pushed together)- there is plenty of space for a cot if you are bringing a baby but we would not recommend the cottage to anyone with an active toddler as the bedroom is galleried - 3ft balustrade.
Minimum Hire: Three nights; except in high season when it is a week. Changeover for weekly lets is a Saturday.
Also: No smoking, no pets.
Grounds: There is a small garden with patio, table and chairs and parasol.
Parking: There is dedicated parking to one side of the cottage.
Nearby: A second holiday cottage, The Granary is the nearest cottage - the owners' farmhouse is beyond The Granary. All are set on a 200 acre farm on the original Suffolk heaths the area was and still is largely devoted to sheep grazing and arable crops. Tracks criss cross the farm and there are some lovely circular walks from your doorstep. There is a small caravan site on the farm.
Eating and drinking: Grocery deliveries are available and there is a great selection of catering options for your stay at The Forge. Local produce can be found at The Friday Street Farm shop (1 mile away) a couple of minutes drive from the cottage. There is a village shop and post office in Snape (15 minutes walk, 5 minutes in the car) where there is also a choice of three good pubs, The Crown, The Golden Key and The Plough, a coffee shop, restaurant and food hall all housed in the Snape Maltings - excellent bakery selection. Orford (a 15-minute drive) has excellent restaurants, pubs, a great butcher’s, two smokeries supplying mouth-watering freshly smoked fish ham-hock and cheese and a fresh fish stall. Aldeburgh is also a must for lovers of good food.
Entertainment: TV, DVD player and music centre. There are a few DVDs and CDs for you to enjoy, as well as books and local maps. You will find local walks in the visitor information in the cottage - go to www.visit-suffolkcoast.co.uk for a further selection. Snape is the home of Aldeburgh Music so there is a great selection of concerts, recitals, ballet and opera available throughout the year. The beach at nearby Aldeburgh is largely shingle, sand at lower tide and there is sailing, boat trips and bird watching all within a short drive.
Packing tips: Wellingtons and walking boots will be very useful so you can have a good old stomp along the coast without ruining your best shoes! Don’t forget beach towels if you are coming in the summer. For more information on Croft Farm go to Croft Farm, Snape
