About the property

An elegant, late Edwardian house overlooking Southwold Common, the river Blyth and beyond to Walberswick. Ideally situated just a short stroll from Southwold's quaint town centre and sandy beach, Forest Lodge offers everything you’d wish for from a good old-fashioned holiday by the English seaside.

This property is ideal for

A family of 8 or a group of friends who are looking to be based within walking distance of a clean and sandy beach. It would be quite easy for you not to leave Southwold at all, with everything you need on your doorstep – pubs, restaurants, bakers, butchers, green grocers and fishmongers. Not forgetting a great selection of boutiques and gift shops to lazily meander in and out of.

Southwold Pier offers a wealth of fun for the whole family, including shows, amusements, cafes, restaurants and shops.

Also worth a visit:

The Southwold Museum : Dedicated to the local and natural history of the area.

The Amber Museum : The only purpose built museum in Great Britain to tell the story and history of Amber.

Adnams Brewery Tours : Explaining the beer making process, and the chance to see parts of the brewery that are normally kept secret from the public. And of course a few ‘souvenirs’ to enjoy back at Forest Lodge are in order!

There is a tennis court locally which is open to the members of the public for a small fee, and kids will love the boating lake. You can walk over the footbridge to Walberswick but it's far more enjoyable catching the Southwold to Walberswick ferry. Tip: Take your crabbing lines - crabbing off the jetty at Walberswick is great fun.

Guests looking to explore other areas on the Suffolk Coast won’t be disappointed – Southwold is an idyllic base, with other coastal gems such as Dunwich, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Orford within easy driving distance. Cycling at the Suffolk coast can be enjoyed via a fantastic network of cycle routes. Equally, with its spacious and refreshing decor you may be tempted to stay in and do nothing whatsoever! Grounds

We can quite imagine Forest Lodge as it used to be – a lovely family home in the heart of Southwold. The spacious and enclosed garden with a selection of apple and pear trees and small kitchen garden area is perfect for families with young children, and to relax in when the weather is warm. There is a patio and garden furniture ideal for outside dining, and a large garden shed which can be used to store bikes. The house is set back from the quiet road, with a small front garden and lovely views across the heath land, golf club and cricket club – what could be more English?

To the rear of the property is off-road parking for up to two cars

Rates will vary between £1392 - £1947 per week, depending on the season

A small welcome pack left for your enjoyment, includes tea, coffee, milk and a locally baked cake or biscuits.

A tasty home-cooked meal can be prepared by the housekeeper, whose contact details you'll be given upon final payment. She asks kindly that you give her a minimum of 10 days notice.

A farmer’s market is held at the pier every 4th Saturday between 9am – 1pm, selling a mouth-watering selection of local produce, including freshly caught fish and local-reared meats. The colourful fruit and veg stalls will certainly lure you into not going home empty handed.

For something a bit different why not try some Brampton Wild Boar? Reared and fed on a natural diet with no additives or GM foods, and offered as steaks, roasting joints, ham, or a hot-smoked haunch that's glazed with the farm's own damson jam. There is no shortage of pubs and restaurants in Southwold and, of course, a trip to the Suffolk Coast wouldn’t be the same without trying Southwold's famous fish and chips! Within walking distance is Mark's Fish Shop, but we also recommend a drive down the coast to Aldeburgh where you’ll find The Golden Galleon , and The Upper Deck ... Golden, plump deliciousness!

Little extras

A box of toys can be hired from the housekeeper, should the weather turn and the family need entertaining. A babysitting service can also be provided, but please give the housekeeper a minimum of 10 days notice.

Packing Tips

Golfers, don’t forget your clubs. Walkers, don’t forget an Ordnance Survey of the area. Everyone, don’t forget buckets, spades and beach towels. Have fun!
