Description

A stylish, newly refurbished seaside cottage close to the sea in Aldeburgh.

"We had a lovely stay and would definitely like to return!" Mrs B., London, July 2013.
SNAPE 5 miles (8km), ORFORD 12 miles (17km), WOODBRIDGE 20 miles (33km), SOUTHWOLD 24 miles (39km)

The Property:
One of a pair of old fishermen's cottages newly refurbished to create two charming holiday cottages; its neighbour being retained by the owners for their use. It is wonderful to come across this delightful cottage tucked away close to Aldeburgh's Town Steps. With its own sunny little courtyard garden, Fisherman's Cottage has all that you could want for a seaside holiday at any time of year. Light floods into the spacious open plan living area during the day, whilst at night the cosy wood burning stove and central heating will keep you warm and snug. There is a private terraced area with table and chairs and lots of potted plants, beyond which is a large utility room with space for all your sailing gear, bicycles etc.

The Surroundings:
Just a step away from Aldeburgh High Street where there are many tempting opportunities for window shopping and fine fresh local produce to be enjoyed both in the wonderful selection of cafes and restaurants and from the excellent food shops. Aldeburgh is one of those rare and very special seaside towns visited by the enlightened time and time again. Writers, artists, composers, musicians, actors and those who hanker for the simple pleasures of holidays of their youth return to Aldeburgh year after year. True there is now a plethora of smart boutique clothes shops, local produce and organic food is commonplace and extremely good, and restaurants produce mouth watering menus which are likely to attract you back time and again. But the boating lake is still a draw for even the most sophisticated youngster and you can still stroll down to Slaughden for crab fishing, sailing or a boat trip on the Alde. And whilst popular, the town is only really crowded during the Carnival and if you want to be alone simply wander along the beach or across the water meadows and whilst you will not be alone - the area is a haven for some spectacular wildlife including some rare and wonderful birds - you can have a peaceful walk pretty well undisturbed by human contact.

Eating and drinking out:
There are plenty of pubs, restaurants and tearooms to choose from, all within a few steps of the cottage. The White Lion Hotel has sea views and a traditional menu and Prezzo provides a relaxed, friendly atmosphere for all ages. For slightly more formal dining, try Regatta or The Lighthouse, but no trip to Suffolk could be complete without trying the world-class Aldeburgh fish and chips. There are two great fish and chip shops in Aldeburgh high street, but you may have to queue.

Self catering eating:
In the high street you will find all the holiday provisions and treats you need; butchers, bakers, greengrocers, Lawsons Delicatessen, a Co-op general store and, of course, the fish sheds dotted along the beach, selling freshly-caught seafood throughout the day.
The pretty little town of Orford Ness, situated on the rivers Alde and Ore is a 20 minute pleasant drive through rural Suffolk and well worth a visit. Pinney's of Orford have grown oysters at Butley Creek since the 1950s and continues to supply freshly smoked fish every day and the award winning Pump Street Bakery has the most amazing breads and pastries. Snape Maltings is only a few miles away with The Food Hall and Farmers' Market. Alternatively, most of the major super markets will deliver to this address.
