Looking for inspiration for May half term? Fed up of hearing “I’m bored” as you try to entertain the kids at home?

Here’s our pick of some of the events taking place.

The Suffolk Show, Trintiy Park, Ipswich

Wednesday 29th & Thursday 30th May 2019

May half term wouldn’t be complete without the annual Suffolk Show. This year’s show promises lots of new attractions to explore, including a ‘Real Life Superheroes’ area where you can meet some of the county’s paramedics, air ambulance, fire service and lifeboat crews and enjoy views of the whole showground from the new viewing platform. The show also offers an exciting programme of events in the Grand Ring as well as an opportunity to get up close and personal with a range of animals in the Farm Discovery Zone.  You can also seek out some of the county’s finest food producers at the show. Suffolk Cottage Holidays will be at the show this year so don’t forget to come and say hello!

Through The Ages at Kentwell Hall, Long Melford

Saturday 25th - Monday 27th May 2019

Embark on a journey through time at the magical 15th Century moat house Kentwell Hall this half term.  Enjoy a fascinating journey through all of our time periods from Neolithic to the twentieth century. Through the Ages is a celebration of fashion, food and entertainment and is a fantastic day out for all the family. 

Family Nature Ramble at Carlton Marshes

Saturday 25th May 2019

As part of the ever-popular Suffolk Walking Festival, join this gentle ramble around Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve in Lowestoft. This event is designed for family groups and is a ramble through the marshes looking for signs of nature.

Learn the legendary skills of Robin Hood - Framlingham Castle, Framlingham

Saturday 25th May 2019 - Sunday 2nd June 2019

Find out more about the Legend of Robin Hood at Framlingham Castle. Get involved in interactive storytelling sessions featuring swashbuckling swordfights, terrifying tournaments and awesome archery. You will also have the chance to do battle with the evil Sheriff of Nottingham or compete against the legendary skills of Robin Hood, the finest archer in the land.

Anglo-Saxon reenactment at Sutton Hoo, Near Woodbridge

Saturday 25th - Monday 27th May 2019 

Step back over 1000 years in time to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of Anglo-Saxon life as Sutton Hoo is transformed into an Anglo-Saxon settlement by Thegns of Mercia for a weekend full of reenactment. Discover more about Anglo-Saxon life, how they ate, see Anglo-Saxon crafts people and experience the music of the time.

Framlingham Gala Fest, Framlingham

Saturday 25th - Monday 27th May 2019 

Framlingham Gala Fest is back for a second year in 2019 with 3 days of coour, music and family fun! The traditional parade and entertainment on the Castle Meadow will again follow the newest events on the Saturday and Sunday, including the Team Duathlon and Live Music night. For an afternoon of fun, head to Castle Meadow on bank holiday Monday for live music and family entertainment. There will be something for everyone, young or old, to enjoy including games, archery and traditional races. Also for the children there will be face painting, fun fair, games and magic by Magic Olly. The event begins with a parade at midday and runs until 8pm so plenty of time to relax and enjoy an afternoon with family and friends.

The Elveden Country Show, Thetford

Saturday 1st June - Sunday 2nd June 2019

The Elveden Country Show is the show that has something for everybody. With amazing attractions includng horse stuntman, heavy horse displays, motorbike stunt teams, falconry displays and cookery demonstrations. There is also a Food & Drink Festival and Festivals of Dogs with Charity Fun Dog Shows and over 22 classes a day.

Bear & Gin Festival at The Oakesmere, Brome, Near Eye

Saturday 25th - Sunday 26th May 2019

The Oaksmere is holding it's first gin and beer festival this late May bank holiday weekend. Including a dedicated gin bar featuring both local and unusual gins from around the world as well as over 20 local ales and ciders and continental style beers on offer to taste. Set in 17 acres of beautiful grounds at the popular Oaksmere, a destination pub and restaurant. In addition to the gin & beer there will also be live music and entertainment throughout both days as well as family fun including a tug of war tournament as well as n expect to be well fed with a delicious Blythburgh pork hog-roast, slow cooked brisket and bavette streak frites. Advance tickets £12, tickets on the door £14.

Head to Southwold and enjoy a day at the quirky award-winning pier or for the intrepid adventurer, head to the harbour and book a trip on the Coastal Voyager.
