January's Hidden Gem
The Suffolk countryside still has some areas which are largely unspoilt and hidden from the view of most visitors - even some locals!
Luckily, the Suffolk Cottage Holidays team know the Suffolk countryside like the back of their hand, and they are going to reveal their Suffolk Hidden Gems to you each month.
This month our Marketing Assistant Aimee shares her Suffolk Hidden Gem. A quiet footpath in the Heart of Suffolk which leads through the small village of Brandeston. The River Deben meanders across the footpath where you come to a pretty country ford. There is a foot bridge which allows you to walk over when the water is high. Surrounded by picturesque scenery, rolling countryside and a whole of exciting wildlife to discover. This is a route that is popular with both dog walkers and explorers alike!
Aimee says "I used to come here all the time when I was younger. We would bring fishing nets and look for little fish and fresh water snails in the beautifully clear water. On hot summer days me and my brother would love to wade into the shallow water as it rushed over the top of the ford to help us cool down!"
"We would bring the dog too and sometimes a picnic - which we would have to eat quickly to stop our greedy labrador from eating it all. I now am lucky enough to be able to take my daughter down to the ford with my own greedy labrador where we do all the same things I remember doing as a child. She's not so keen on the fishing and instead prefers to ride her bike to the ford (cue huge in takes of breath from as I watch her disappear down the hill!) and watching the dog leap into the water as she throws a ball.
"After we've walked the dog we head back up the hill where we can enjoy a drink and some delicious food at the local pub The Queen, which is just a short walk into the centre of the village. This hidden gem is utter bliss on a warm summer's day and made even better as you rarely see many other people!"
We will be sharing a 'Suffolk Hidden Gem' with you each month - why not sure share yours too?
