A Traditional Family Christmas

Written by Aimee Anderson on

Our lives are so busy these days we rarely find time to appreciate life's little pleasures. Christmas is the perfect time of year to slow things down...

It's the time of year when you simply want to put all the concerns of the past 12 months to one side and enjoy the simple things. What better way to do so than a truly traditional family Christmas - a traditional country cottage, a log fire in the grate, a Christmas tree in the corner, the dog curled up on the rug and your loved ones around you. A Suffolk Christmas means you get all this plus unspoilt countryside surrounding you and the sea is never far away.

Long leisurely breakfasts can be followed by a stroll along the beach or a woodland walk. After all that fresh air you might be tempted to indulge in a pub lunch or Suffolk’s finest fish and chips, then home to a glowing fire, some traditional games or an evening in front of the telly.

Spend Christmas in Suffolk this year and it will be one you and your loved ones will never forget. Here are some of our favourite properties that are available for bookings over the festive season:

  • The Blue House, Snape is just a few yards from the estuary, a good country walk from the beach and the sea at Aldeburgh. You are also a stone's throw from Snape Maltings where you might want to do some last minute Christmas shopping or go to a show.  There are three good pubs all within a 5-minute walk.  Sleeps 5.
  • Vine Barn, Otley has three lovely big bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, there is a dedicated playroom for the children and a games room. The large dining room is just perfect for Christmas lunch.  Village pub and stunning county towns to enjoy.  The coast can be reached in less than half an hour. Sleeps 6.
  • Boot Cottage, Iken.  For a truly traditional country cottage Boot Cottage has it all, beams, open fires, beautifully furnished and with all mod cons.  Step outside and from the oak porch you can see cows in the field at the bottom of the garden.  Just a few minutes from the estuary and the sea. Sleeps 4.
  • The Old Stables, Pettistree is down a quiet country lane and not far from the traditional country pub The Greyhound. Surrounded by sweeping countryside, why take go for a brisk walk on a bright winter's day and end up at the pub for a drink in front of the fire? A short drive from the riverside town of Woodbridge. Sleeps 4.
