Make your 2017 Christmas magical this year and get involved in some of the wondeful events and activities taking place over the festive season. There is so much to see and do in Suffolk and with so many events all over the county you’ll be pushed to try them all! To make things easier here are a few highlights to help you decide what to do in Suffolk over the festive season.
Christmas Markets & Fairs
Jimmy's Farm Christmas Fayre
For something a little different head along to Jimmy’s Farm for a Christmas Fayre with a difference. Filled with food stalls and gift ideas, you can do your Christmas shopping sample some mulled cider and then enjoy the Farm Park! There’s something for all the family at Jimmy’s Farm. From Saturday 2nd - 2rd December.
Heveningham Hall Christmas Market
On Sunday 3rd December you can meet Santa, as well as Holly & Ivy the local Reindeer at Heveningham Hall. Get all your Christmas presents in one place with a selection of stalls selling local produce, as well as enjoying some mulled wine and mince pies. Open from 10-2pm.
Lavenham Christmas Fair
Head down to the historic market town of Lavenham in the first weekend of December for 3 days of festivities. The Christmas Fair will take place from Friday 1st - Sunday 3rd December where there will be a seasonal feast for the senses, music and entertainment for all the family and Craft and Food stalls. Plus, Father Christmas will be in his grotto for all children big and small!
Halesworth Traditional Christmas Market
Take a step back in time and visit the Historic Halesworth Market Place on Saturday 9th December for its second Traditional Christmas Market. Just like times gone by the Market Place will be packed with local food drink producers and local artisans selling their wares. To add to the festive atmosphere there will be carols in the morning followed by music and entertainment.
Father Christmas On The Farm
There’s something for everyone at Easton Farm Park this Christmas. Get stuck in on the farm and meet Father Christmas along with all the farm animals. The Christmas Special includes a ‘sleigh’ ride to meet the animals and a mug of something warm for the grown ups! Tickets are £12 for adults and £ for children and are available until Christmas Eve. Book your tickets now to avoid disappointment!
Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre
It’s easy to see why Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre is one of the most popular in Suffolk! Full of a great selection of handmade decorations and unique gifts in the historical town of Bury St Edmunds. The fair takes place from Thursday 23rd – Sunday 26th November and will give you the opportunity to shop until you drop with over 300 stalls including yummy street food. Then when you’ve had enough you can slink away to one of the cafes and tea shops in the area to refresh yourself. If you want a break from the hustle and bustle of the fair you can always immerse yourself in the peace and quiet of the history Abbey Gardens?
Clare Christmas Fair
Visit one of the historical Wool Towns in Suffolk and enjoy the launch of the Clare Winter Festival for a two day event in the town centre. Starting on Friday 24th until Sunday 26th November the Festival launches with a children’s parade, carol singing and lots of fabulous family entertainment. Not forgetting the Snow Queen, her Snowman Friend and a very special visitor from the North Pole it’s sure to be a weekend to remember. The Christmas Fair is then followed by a series of events in the town culminating with the Festival’s finale of a Christmas market on 16th December.
Festive Fun at Minsmere
This is one for the nature lovers! From 25th - 26th November you can enjoy some of the amazing native winter wildlife on show and whilst escaping the High Street crowds to treat your loved ones to a gift they’ll treasure from the Minsmere Shop. With expert advice, chocolate tasting, mulled spiced apple juice ... and the chance to explore Minsmere’s nature trails!
There are various Christmas light ‘switch ons’ across the county including Halesworth, Framlingham and Southwold on Saturday 25th November. With carol singing, festive food and drink stalls and family entertainment what a great way to get you feeling Christmassy?
Aldeburgh and Felixstowe follow suit on Saturday 2nd December where there will be plenty of opportunity to get cracking with your Christmas shopping with a range of gifts from local traders, carol singing and even a visit from Santa!
If the hustle and bustle of Christmas Markets isn't your then why not explore the amazing Suffolk coast and countryside in all it's winter glory?
Suffolk is beautiful at any time of year and the Winter months are often thought as dreary and dull. It couldn’t be further from the truth! With less people around you can really appreciate the stunning landscapes and skylines that we have here in Suffolk. With so many wonderful walks to explore, whether it be coastal or woodland, simply wrap up warm and get ready for some stunning views and plenty of fresh air!
Some of our favourites include Flatford - immerse yourself in the transquility of the glorious River Stour, Framlingham - explore the countryside surrounding the historical town of Framlingham, you could even take a trip to the ‘Castle on the hill’, Dunwich – take a bracing walk along the beach followed by a cosy drink in The Ship Inn, what could be better?
If you prefer stay indoors then visit one of the many Historical buildings that we have in Suffolk. Ickworth house near Bury St Edmunds is one to add to your list, and they have a whole host of winter activities for you and your family to get involved in. For something a bit different you could take a visit to The Guildhall at Lavenham as part of the guided Lantern Walk allowing you to explore this beautiful town in a completely different way.
Relax and unwind
If you’d rather take a much more relaxing approach to the festive season, then the Weavers Spa at The Swan in Lavenhan in the place for you. Take time out for yourself and indulge in some 'me' time after a hectic year... utter bliss!
