August Bank Holiday Weekend in Bury St Edmunds - Itinerary

With the August Bank Holiday coming up fast - what have you got planned for the last long weekend of the year? If you haven't yet decided then take a look at our suggested itinerary for a weekend near Bury St Edmunds. There are a whole host of events in and around this charming, historical market town in West Suffolk. It's cobbled streets are filled with architectural delights and a whole host of excellent eateries, making it a culinary hotspot.

Suffolk is well-known as the foodie county; and if you're a foodie then 'Bury' is the place for you! This August Bank Holiday weekend sees the return of the Bury St Edmunds Food & Drink Festival. Now running into its 6th year the festival is gaining huge acclaim and includes appearances from top celebrity chefs - this year's festival will welcome James Tanner and Paul Rankin. You will also be treated to a variety of food and drink stalls, cookery demonstrations - including a cocktail making demo - as well as street entertainment and fairground rides, perfect for entertaining the troops while you stuff your face with deliciousness. If you prefer life a bit more fast paced then head down to the Lavenham Classics event at Lavenham Recreation Ground. The newly re-named festival is growing in popularity and is open to all veteran, vintage, classic and supercars & motor cycles. There will be a variety of food and drink stalls available to both vehicle owners and visitors, with all proceeds going to charity including The East Anglian Air Ambulance Service and Lavenham Community Council. Sunday 26th August 2018. 11am - 4pm. Heading further West towards to the county border you will come across the stunning town of Newmarket. This is the national centre of horse-racing and the Summer is the perfect time to visit. Steeped in history there is much more to this market town than horses! Discover all that Newmarket has to offer with a national stud tour or a trip to Palace House, where you will find the national heritage centre for horseracing and sporting art as well as live horse demonstrations. If you've got the family with you then the Family Fun Day on the Adnams July Course is one for you. A fun filled day of horseracing and a whole host of entertainment off the course to entertain the whole family before they start back at school.
