Villages around Southwold

Southwold is a wonderful seaside town on Suffolk’s Heritage coast.  With its fascinating pier, still retaining old fashioned ‘penny’ slot machines, its long sandy beach and its beautiful unspoilt  high street boasting more than a smattering of independent shops selling everything from the very best local produce to fine art, the old Sailors’ Room and outstanding church, you could easily imagine yourself back in the mid 20th century. Any parent seeking a relaxing seaside break and the opportunity for their children to discover for themselves the delights of an old fashioned holiday will love Southwold.

Walk along the coast northwards and you will reach the fossil filled crumbling cliffs of Covehithe; travel south to the Blyth Estuary for newly caught fresh fish or take a boat trip to see the seals.  A little further south is Dunwich, once one of the largest habitations in England, now nothing more than a few streets of pretty ancient cottages facing the sea in one direction, ancient heaths in the other.

There are many picture book villages close to Southwold, with delightful cottages as well as some large barns and big houses now fully refurbished for holiday letting.
