Tastes of Woodbridge & Orford

The Crown and Castle in Orford

Whether you have a sweet tooth, or a penchant for something savoury, you’ll find plenty of local delights to choose from in Woodbridge and Orford.

All Hands to the Pump!

Pretty in Suffolk pink, the exterior of Orford’s Pump Street Bakery is just as delightful and the treats that await inside.   This award winning bakery offers outstanding bread and handmade pastries, all made daily in the village.  There’s a cafe serving artisan tea and coffee and seasonal, local food.  We have two favourites here - the jam doughnuts are like no other and the Portuguese tarts are truly scrumptous!

Pump Street Bakery also make their own chocolate. For a real life Willy Wonka experience why not take a tour of the Pump Street Chocolate Making rooms during your stay?!

Oysters - The Food of Love?

Oysters and mussels have been produced on the River Deben by the Simper family (Simpers of Ramsholt) since the 1940s, so if you enjoy shellfish, you won’t want to miss trying the local produce whilst you’re here.

The Woodbridge Shuck is an annual festival held every September at Whisttocks Quayside, Woodbridge that celebrates local fish and shellfish.  The quay is filled with a variety of stalls, music and entertainement, whilst throughout the town restaurants and pubs serve local fish and shellfish dishes.

Top Table

Woodbridge and Orford are brimming with fabulous places to eat.  With two AA Rosettes, The Crown and Castle in Orford is one of the culinary highlights of the area, serving fine, but unpretentious food.  For delicious, modern brasserie food The Table in Woodbridge is the perfect, especially on warm summer evenings when you can enjoy the candle lit courtyard.

Woodbridge and Snape Farmers Markets

To sample truly local produce during your stay, why not visit one of the local farmers markets in the area.  Woodbridge Farmers Market takes place on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month at Woodbridge Community Hall, Station Road between 9am and 12.30pm, and there is a monthly farmers market at Snape Maltings on the morning of the first Saturday of every month, 9.30am until 12noon.

Wake Up and Smell the Coffee

Forget the national chains, Woodbridge and Orford have some fabulous cafes and coffee houses such as Honey + Harvey, serving the finest artisan coffees, and organic, locally sourced foods.
