Located on the banks of the River Deben, the market town of Woodbridge is brimming with interesting shops and galleries, cafes, pubs and restaurants, and things to do. The town’s character is defined by its architecture and historical interest including the 16th Century Shire Hall and 15th Century St Margaret's Church. The train station is just a 1½ hour journey from Central London making Woodbridge the perfect destination for a weekend break of R&R away from city life.
Enjoy a relaxed stroll or cycle ride along the banks of the Deben and Woodbridge Waterfront, which was once a thriving ship building area, and you’ll spot the town’s well-known Tide Mill. This unusual tide powered grain mill was built over 800 years ago and was fully operational until 1957. It is now a fascinating visitor centre where you can learn about the mill’s history and workings.
Just across the river is National Trust, Sutton Hoo. Here you can walk around the ancient burial mounds and discover the incredible story of the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king and his treasured possessions.
If you prefer to unwind and watch the world go by there’s plenty of opportunity to do that along the river, where you can also enjoy the wildlife (the mudflats and salt marsh are a Natural England Special Protection Area).
The choice of holiday cottages in Woodbridge is as diverse as the list of things to do, with everything from stylish studios with river views to grand townhouses.
